INDIA’S FARMER PROTESTS
Farmers especially from Punjab and Haryana in a procession, trekked to New Delhi to protest the new farm bills. On the way, they were met with violence by state security who used batons, tear gas, and water cannons. Protests sprang up in support of the farmers in the UK, US, Canada, Australia, and the EU, etc. The protesters have camped outside of New Dehli’s borders because the state has used barricades to stop their advance. Given our work and contacts at the United Nations Maar has been approached by different organizations representatives from across the Diaspora to appeal to the Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations to intervene recognizing the importance of the rights of farmers in India to peacefully assemble and protest.
